The Restorative Practices International (RPI) Board held a strategic planning retreat on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) in June 2025. This was a relational and values-led gathering, aiming to align the Board with its purpose and co-create RPI’s future direction, anchored in Connection, Belonging, Integrity, and Growth.
Welcomed by Uncle Raymond Walker, the retreat focused on relational governance, balancing strategy with reflection and deep listening. The goal is to advance RPI’s vision: “A world where restorative practice is a recognised, respected and resourced approach to transforming relationships and systems through healing harm and advancing social justice and collective healing.”
Key areas of focus and resulting commitments include:
- Reconnecting to Purpose: Reaffirming the collective commitment to advance social justice and healing through restorative approaches.
- Membership Engagement: A comprehensive Membership Engagement Strategy is being developed to make membership more meaningful and reciprocal, including personalized welcomes and dialogue spaces. Member feedback on the draft strategy is highly encouraged.
- Partnerships: A values-led partnership mapping will chart existing collaborations and seek new alliances across sectors, cultures, and disciplines to maximize global impact.
- Strategic Pillars: Actions are aligned with the core values to strengthen networks (Connection), amplify underrepresented voices (Belonging), embed ethical, values-led governance (Integrity), and expand learning opportunities (Growth).
- Actionable Commitments: The Board concluded with a Collective To-Do List across governance, engagement, partnerships, communications, and practice, ensuring a clear path forward.
RPI emphasizes that this is a living strategy and shared responsibility. Members are invited to contribute by joining working groups, sharing feedback, co-creating content, and attending member gatherings.
